Spring is the season of new beginnings, and Piedmont Adult School is offering two new classes to jump-start your creative pursuits.
Fiction and Creative Nonfiction Writing
Everyone has a story to tell. If you’re ready to tell yours, this Fiction and Creative Nonfiction Writing class will get you started. The class is designed for beginners and experienced writers alike, and will focus on the components of effective writing and strategies to maintain a writing practice. There will be short readings, writing exercises, discussions, and the opportunity to workshop.
The six-week class will be taught by published author Caitlin McCarthy. McCarthy holds bachelors and masters degrees in writing and currently teaches Literature and Language Arts at Corpus Christi School in Oakland. She is also a private writing coach and teaches writing workshops for all ages.
Art from the Heart
Do you need an antidote to our high-tech world? Unplug for a while and learn to tap into your expressive and creative side. Art from the Heart will focus on drawing techniques that encourage students to turn off the analytical brain, observe closely, and let creativity take over. Students will look at the works of famous artists for ideas and inspiration, and classwork will include contour drawings and portraiture. Novices are welcome.
Art from The Heart, a six-week class, will be taught by Kathleen Deyo. A graduate of Syracuse University’s School of Fine Arts, Kathleen’s work has been featured in The New York Times‘ Discoveries column, House Beautiful, Woman’s Day and recently in Paint Decor. She has taught Illustration at Bridgeport University and Interior Design at the College of New Rochelle.
