Course Description
Economics is a semester long course introducing basic
economic principles and current economic issues with a focus on the American
economy. Students will examine components of the American economy such as
price, competition, business and banking institutions. We will also examine
issues related to the economy as a whole through employment and labor issues, the
role of the government in the economy and selected topics on global economics.

Reading
Schedule In an attempt to save paper, I will post your reading schedule for
each unit on my PUSD teacher notes. Please use this to monitor class
announcements, HW, links to recommended & required readings and other misc.
information. If you are absent, you still know what the HW is…Also, Reading
schedule will be posted and due dates will be in Infinite Campus for you
section.
You must complete the reading prior
to the beginning of class and take
notes on the reading or the questions provided. These will be checked at
the beginning of class. There are 10 points to be earned each class day. 5 pts
for your written HW notes and 5 for active learning demonstrated through: class
and /or group participation, active and engaged learning observed by teacher on
a daily basis. If you are tardy there is an automatic deduction of 3 pts to
your daily points. UNX = 0. EXC can get 5 pts for HW turned in immediately upon
return from excused absence.
Grade: Tests and Quizzes : 30%
Projects and Papers: 30% CE, debates, papers
Class and Homework: 30% group wk and gcd.
Class Participation: 10% expected daily
Class
Participation: This includes
participation in class discussions,
demonstration of knowledge of subject area based on readings and assignments, participation in group work,
timely arrival to class, following
school rules and last but not least,
being respectful.
Additionally, we will have many graded class discussions (GCD)
in which I will keep track of both quality and quantity of your contributions.
You may also ask relevant questions of me or your classmates which counts as
participation. You must stand when you
are speaking in class.
Bathroom: sparingly and rapidly,
privileges may be revoked at anytime. Your cell phone on my desk is your
bathroom pass. One person at a time.
No Electronic equipment! I will
confiscate.
Food & Drink: water only. No candy! No exceptions. Penalty= DT
Late and make-up work: papers and projects will be accepted late with a penalty of one grade
per calendar day late. In the event of an absence,
assignment must be turned in to me via turnitin.com during the class period on
the day it is due. You will need to turn in a hard copy the day you return to
school. I use turnitin.com for all papers. Class ID #5347604 pw iloveecon
One HW assignment will be
accepted late per quarter without penalty. Students with excused absences must
turn in their homework on the day they return. No other late homework
will be accepted. *I follow all school policies outlined in the student planner
regarding plagiarism and school rules in general.
