My biggest take-away from the GAFE Summit was the idea of staying grounded in supporting student learning instead of just using all of the cool technologies that are available. The SAMR Model identifies how technologies are being used:
S ubstitution: tech acts as a direct tool substitution with no functional change.
A ugmentation: tech acts as a direct tool substitution with functional improvement.
M odification: tech allows for significant task redesign.
R edefinition: tech allows for creation of new tasks, previously inconceivable.
As I move forward this model will help me thoughtfully plan lessons and units that will help students reach new heights in their learning.
